National sustainable Procurement Conference

The National Sustainable Procurement Conference was hosted by the Department of Public Works on 18-19 September 2008 at the Hilton Hotel in Brisbane. It was the fourth in the series previously known as the National Buying Green Conferences.

The Conference attracted 263 registrations from the public and private sector nationally and attracted 18 exhibitors of sustainable goods and services.

For government as well as business, sustainability has become an important strategic issue and sustainable procurement has been placed high on Queensland's agenda. The sustainable procurement conference series is an important platform on which to continue to progress these issues and promote collaboration amongst jurisdictions at a national level.

The conference provided a forum for the exchange of knowledge, practical applications and successful case studies of sustainable (green and ethical) procurement for people working in all levels of public and private sector organisations and the business community.

Underpinning the conference was the theme 'Integrate, Connect, Progress' which were the drivers in meeting the conference objectives.

This conference has been previously hosted by the Western Australian Local Government Association (2005 in Perth), the NSW Department of Environment and Conservation (2003 in Sydney) and the Municipal Association of Victoria (2002 in Melbourne).

The Conference sponsors were; Energex (platinum sponsor), Department of Main Roads (gold sponsor), Data#3 (gold sponsor), Kennedy's Classic Aged Timber (gold sponsor), Local Government Association of Queensland (gold sponsor), Project Procure (silver sponsor), Ritek Building Solutions (networking drinks sponsor).
